Eleanor Catherine Martino of Gustine passed away July 4 at 91 years of age.
Born in Davis to parents who had emigrated from the Azores, she lived much of her life on the West Side of the San Joaquin Valley. She attended schools in Crows Landing and Newman, where she graduated high school.
She married Frank Martino and raised five children in Gustine, her hometown for over 70 years.
Although she worked outside the home early on, Mrs. Martino valued being a devoted wife and caring mother, so her focus became her family.
A selfless and loving person, she was a supportive partner to her husband and a nurturing mom.
She became a big fan of the Giants and 49ers in her later years.
Mrs. Martino found relaxation in gardening. She was also an excellent, though humble, cook.
She was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation and a parishioner at the Shrine of Our Lady of Miracles.
Her spirit, smile and sense of humor touched many lives and will continue to be a source of inspiration to those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Martino is survived by two daughters, Annette Clark and Marilyn Martino; two sons; Frank Martino and Alan (Joy) Martino; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Anthony; a brother, Frank “Curly” Ramos; and a sister, Lucille Wooten.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) at 9 a.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel, Gustine, with a rosary to follow at 10. Interment will follow in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be directed to a favorite charity.
