Mary Cecelia Simoes, 95, of LaGrange passed away Feb. 5.
Mrs. Simoes was a native of Gustine. She lived in the Newman-Gustine area until 1990, when she moved to LaGrange.
She was a member of the Newman SPRSI (Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel) and PFSA
(Portuguese Fraternal Society of America), and a former member of the SES, UPEC, Young Ladies Institute, Lady of Fatima Society and Our Lady of Miracles Society.
Mrs. Simoes is survived by two daughters, Mary Lima of Turlock and Lenora Simoes of LaGrange; a sister, Laura Cotta of Gustine; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Simoes; a brother, Manuel Pedro; and two sisters, Adeline Santos and Alexandrina Pedro.
Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 5-7 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel, Newman, with a rosary to follow.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Hills Ferry Cemetery.
