Obituary: George Lema Jr.

George Lema Jr. of Gilroy passed away April 6 at 77 years of age, surrounded by his wife and children.

Mr. Lema was born in Gustine, and lived in the Central Valley for 22 years.

He was a 1955 graduate of Orestimba High School.

He moved to San Jose, where he raised his family and lived for more than 50 years before moving to Gilroy for the last two years of his life.

He was a surveyor for 32 years with George S. Nolte. Mr. Lema enjoyed traveling in his RV and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family meant the world to him, and those who knew Mr. Lema will remember him for his humor and smile.

Mr. Lema is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; three children, Darlene (Gary) Silva, Dianna (Dale) Owens and Donald (Laurie) Lema; three sisters, Helen Freitas, Ethel Cotta and Mary Jane Alves; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Viewing has been scheduled for 3-6 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose. An informal celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. All who knew Mr. Lema are invited to attend and share a story about him, or simply enjoy the stories told by others.

Services will be held Saturday, April 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, with burial at 2:30. A reception will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
