Agnes Grace Lopes, 98, of Newman, passed away Feb. 26.
Mrs. Lopes was born in Patterson and raised in Gustine. She lived in Newman most of her adult life.
She was a homemaker, and also worked as a housekeeper at San Luis Care Center and for many years was a butcher at Lloyd’s Market.
She was a parishioner at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Newman.
She was an avid supporter of the Orestimba High band. Her sons Ayres and Daniel played in the band during their high school years at OHS. Mrs. Lopes also created and sewed costumes for theatre and ballet productions for her daughter Bernadette and son David.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel Lopes of Gustine and David Lopes of Oakland; a daughter, Bernadette Lopes of Berkeley; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son, Ayres J. Lopes Jr.; three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 5, from 5-7 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman, followed by a rosary.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Hills Ferry Cemetery.
